GTRI Shalimar is located near the West Gate of Eglin AFB in Shalimar, Fla., and close to Hurlburt AFB, home of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). Eglin AFB is home to PEO Weapons and AFRL/RW for acquisition, research and development of all conventional air-launched weapons, as well as the 96th Test Wing responsible for the developmental test and evaluation of weapons and C4I systems for the United States Air Force.
The mission at GTRI Shalimar is to support on-going activities related to research and development, as well as test and evaluation for Air Force weapons systems. In addition, we seek to support the AFSOC systems development and capabilities enhancement. In general, we seek new opportunities where Georgia Tech capabilities can benefit the Eglin and Hurlburt missions. These areas include weapons, aircraft, and C4I systems test and evaluation, range systems engineering and instrumentation, rapid engineering and prototyping, and deep reach-back to GTRI’s Atlanta-based laboratories.
The Shalimar location has a conference room that holds 75 personnel for meetings, classes and training, and offers distance learning courses to collaborate with the local base engineering population.
GTRI Shalimar is active in the local chapters of AFA, AFCEA, ITEA, NDIA and Old Crows.
