Electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO) include all coordinated actions to exploit, attack, protect, and manage the electromagnetic environment and achieve key operational objectives.

Focus areas include:

• Electronic warfare (EW), including electronic protection (EP), electronic attack (EA), and electronic support (ES)
• Spectrum management
• Cyber electromagnetic activities (CEMA)
• Photonics components and subsystems
• Materials and electronics manufacturing technologies applied to EMSO
• Modular open systems approaches (MOSA)/open architectures
• Basic and applied research, exploratory, and advanced development of radio frequency (RF), MMW, IR, EO missile sensors, ultraviolet and acoustical airborne and ground sensors, and guidance and control systems
• Materials and electronics manufacturing technology to meet the unique requirements of missile system environments for portable, air, and ground-launched applications
