GTRI Hosts Department of Defense Sustainable Technology Evaluation & Demonstration Program Visit

Earlier this summer, GTRI hosted representatives from the Department of Defense's Sustainable Technology Evaluation and Demonstration (STED) Program at the Cobb County Research Facility (CCRF).

STED was established at the direction of Congress, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment (OASD(EI&E)) to evaluate, demonstrate, and transition sustainable commercial off-the-shelf technologies and products. Central to this mission is an emphasis on mission readiness, operational performance and effectiveness, and the health and safety of warfighters.

"Engagements like this are essential to identifying commercially available technologies that can strengthen operational capability while supporting the Department of Defense's commitment to mission readiness, resilience, and warfighter effectiveness," said Reginald Mack, Deputy Director of the DoD STED Program. "Partnering with GTRI helps accelerate the evaluation and transition of innovative solutions that can deliver meaningful operational value."

Representatives from across GTRI participated in the meeting, which was organized by the Air National Guard Program Division (ANGPD) of the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) and took place in the Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) Human Centered Engineering Division's lab spaces.

The visit included briefings and tours by the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS), Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL), and Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) spanning the breadth of key GTRI capabilities including chemical/bio sensing, rapid prototyping and integration, electromagnetic spectrum operations, maintenance and logistics, autonomy, human performance, and human-centered design and evaluation.

"Collaborations with leading research institutions such as GTRI enable us to assess emerging capabilities and accelerate the transition of proven commercial technologies into immediate mission-relevant solutions," said Mack.
