GTRI Appoints Mark Militello as Associate Vice President of Finance and Research Administration

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) has appointed Mark Militello as its next Associate Vice President (AVP) of Finance and Research Administration/Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective May 1, 2025. Militello will provide overall executive leadership of GTRI Finance and Research Administration (FRA), including oversight of all financial organizations within GTRI, and will be responsible for sponsored project administration, business operations, accounting, finance, budgeting, and audits. In this role, he will also serve as Treasurer of the Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation (GTARC), a 501(c)(3) organization that supports research activities at Georgia Tech.

Militello is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with fifteen years of experience serving as a thought leader in government contract accounting, financial management and analysis, forecasting, financial strategy planning and implementation, process modernization, internal controls, as well as regulatory compliance.

Militello started his career at GTRI in 2011 as a Financial Analyst directly supporting laboratory business operations and has worked in various roles at GTRI over the years. Most recently, he served as GTRI’s Senior Director of Finance & Audit and was responsible for the development and management of GTRI’s $1 billion annual budget, maintaining GTRI’s cost recovery systems, indirect rate calculations, and for leading all financial compliance activities for GTRI. 

Militello’s key accomplishments in recent years include serving on Georgia Tech’s Strategic Plan Steering Committee, developing GTRI training programs and lectures on financial operations, and working directly with USG leadership on key GTRI strategic financial activities.

“I am very excited to be transitioning to this important role at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI),” says Militello  “GTRI has experienced tremendous growth for more than a decade and I look forward to leading the organization toward continued excellence in finance and research administration while updating key processes for the GTRI of today and tomorrow.”

Militello holds a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from Kennesaw State University, a master’s degree in accounting from Georgia State University, and an executive leadership certificate from Cornell University.
