Terence Haran is the director of the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI).
Haran has been a part of EOSL since joining GTRI as a student in 1999. He became a fulltime research faculty member in 2002 after completing his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech followed by his Master’s Degree in Physics from Georgia State University. Since being named as a Branch Head in 2008, he has had a number of management positions in EOSL, including serving as the Interim Division Chief for the Electro-Optical Systems Innovation Division and, most recently, as Associate Lab Director.
Haran leads a large interdisciplinary research portfolio centered on sensing, survivability, and electronic warfare for national security applications. He serves as a trusted technical advisor to several DoD program offices and defense agencies and regularly represents GTRI in engagements with senior DoD and US Government leaders. He is also the principal investigator for several major GTRI-wide research programs sponsored by PEO IEW&S, PEO Aviation, and OSD. Haran has authored more than 90 papers and technical reports, has been selected as a Senior Member of IEEE and SPIE, and is the lead instructor for GTRI’s Infrared Technology and Applications professional education course.
